The Specialist, Legal provides legal advice and guidance to support AMF’s operations, contracts, regulatory compliance, and institutional governance. The role assists in mitigating legal risks, ensuring regulatory adherence, and aligning the Fund’s legal activities with established policies and best practices. It also contributes to maintaining and strengthening AMF’s legal framework across investments, partnerships, and corporate operations.

Roles and responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to senior management on institutional operations, investments, partnerships, and emerging legal risks.
• Advise on regulatory developments impacting AMF’s activities, ensuring compliance with local, regional, and international legal frameworks.
• Provide legal opinions on complex matters, including litigation, arbitration, policy interpretation, and commercial disputes.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including MOUs, investment agreements, and vendor contracts.
• Ensure contracts protect AMF’s interests while balancing legal exposure and operational flexibility.
• Collaborate with departments to structure agreements in compliance with AMF’s governance and risk policies.
• Develop, update, and implement compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure AMF operates within legal and regulatory boundaries.
• Conduct internal compliance audits and recommend improvements.
• Monitor and assess legal and reputational risks associated with AMF’s programs and partnerships.
• Lead investigations into employee misconduct, fraud, or operational breaches; develop legal reports and propose resolutions.
• Represent AMF in legal proceedings or coordinate with external counsel.
• Draft position papers and support case documentation in arbitration, mediation, or litigation.
• Draft, review, and validate board resolutions, legal opinions, and official documents in line with AMF’s policies.
• Advise on institutional governance practices, ethics, and internal policy updates.
• Support the Legal Director in reviewing policy documents, charters, and strategic initiatives.
• Coordinate with external law firms, regulators, and legal consultants to handle legal matters and represent AMF.
• Liaise with government bodies and international organizations to interpret and apply regulatory changes.
• Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration on legal compliance and policy harmonization.

Job qualifications and requirements

• Minimum 9 -10 years of progressive legal experience, including at least 5 years in the financial or regulatory sector.
• Solid experience in contract law, regulatory frameworks, and institutional governance.
• Proven ability to handle complex legal negotiations and provide advisory services in a multi-stakeholder environment.
• Master’s degree in Law or Legal Studies from a recognized university.
• Bar qualification or equivalent professional legal license (mandatory).
• Additional training or certification in international financial law, compliance, or governance is an advantage.
