Job Purpose:
The Senior Specialist, Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is responsible for analysing, applying due diligence processes and evaluating financial institutions—such as banks, investment entities, and financial intermediaries—to support AMF’s investment activities. The role conducts financial and sectoral analysis, assesses institutional performance, and contributes to developing recommendations that support sound decision-making.
Roles and Responsibilities / Key Accountabilities
- Assess the financial soundness, creditworthiness, liquidity, and performance of banks, financial institutions, investment firms, and counterparties including investment services providers.
- Review financial statements, corporate fundamentals, and market indicators to evaluate institutional credits and suitability against selection criteria and guidelines.
- Conduct peer comparisons and benchmarking across financial institutions in the region.
- Monitor trends in the sector, banking systems, financial services, e-trading platforms, and regulatory developments affecting the sector.
- Conduct thematic studies on financial/corporate sector investment service providers and market dynamics.
- Prepare analytical reports, sector briefs, and policy insights for management.
- Evaluate credit, market, liquidity, and operational risks associated with partner institutions and investment firms.
- Support the assessment of eligibility and risk classifications for institutions involved in AMF investment programs.
- Conduct due diligence and screening according to approved selection criteria; perform analysis based on market and macroeconomic shifts.
- Provide analytical support for investment proposals or financing programs related to financial institutions.
- Contribute to due diligence, data verification, and institutional assessments required for investment transactions.
- Coordinate with internal teams (Risk, Treasury, Legal) on institutional evaluations and onboarding.
- Maintain updated databases and manuals on FIG institutions, financial metrics, and relationship networks.
- Prepare periodic reports, dashboards, and presentations for committees and senior management.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of FIG-related data and documentation.
- Liaise with counterparties, central banks, financial institutions, and external partners to gather data and insights.
- Participate in meetings, field visits, and consultations with FIG entities.
- Support knowledge exchange and capacity-building activities where relevant.
- Recommend enhancements to FIG methodologies, assessment tools, and research processes.
- Stay informed on global trends, financial regulations, Basel guidelines, and sector innovations.
Job Qualifications and Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience in financial institution analysis, banking sector research, or investment analysis.
- Strong knowledge of financial sector frameworks, investment services, and bank performance metrics.
- Experience with financial modelling, credit analysis, and regulatory standards (e.g., Basel guidelines).
- Knowledge of Arabic (speaking and writing) is a plus.
Education
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field from a reputable university.
Certifications
- Professional credentials such as CFA, CIPM, PRM, or FRM are required.
